Art & Peggy Moran
E. ARTHUR MORAN & MARGARET MORAN JAY - E. Arthur "Art" and Margaret "Peggy" Moran of Jay, passed away, in a car accident, in the morning, on Aug. 5, 2012. Art was born on July 15, 1930, in Burlington to Arthur Moran and Georgiana Chastenay Moran. Although Peggy was born in New Haven, Conn., (we tried not to hold it against her) to Bill and Eileen (ne Galvin) McGinley, she was a lifelong Vermonter and spent much of her childhood in Essex Junction. They were married in 1962 and are survived by five children. Devoted to each other for fifty years, they died together, while they were still vibrant, active and having fun. Art just bragged last week that his golf game was "hot"! If his stocks were down, ever optimist, he assured us all, they would be back up soon enough. He was generous, funny, and a great storyteller. Peggy, warm and full of love, was keenly political and although she wouldn't have said it this way, she always had a thoughtful, sophisticated analysis. Proud to be Irish, she knew that "If you're lucky enough to be Irish, you're lucky enough." Every day they had, Peggy and Art appreciated the beauty of the great state of Vermont. They lived in Burlington for many years, moved to Jay and bought the Jay Country Store, where they made many wonderful friends from both sides of the border. Art is survived by a brother, Chubby Moran (and wife, Flo Laramie Moran) of Charlotte. Peggy is survived by two beloved sisters, Mary McGinley (and husband, Roger Gibeault) of Burlington, and Sheila Cornish of Ashburn, Va.; and two beloved brothers, John McGinley of South Burlington and Pat McGinley (wife, Jane) of Plainville, Conn. Peggy was predeceased by her twin brothers, who she loved and missed, Bill McGinley of Williston and Jerry McGinley of Essex Junction. They are also survived by their five children, who dearly love them, Kiley Moran and partner, Joan Jett, Thomas Moran and spouse, Galia Ofer, Kathleen Moran and spouse, Greg Feeney, Jack Moran and fiancee, Lindsay Applegate, and Molly Moran and partner, Kelly Jones. They are survived also by grandchildren Sarit, Ethan and Daniel Ofer-Moran and Caitlin Moran Feeney. We are grateful for the time we had and we mourn the time we do not. Visiting hours will be Friday, Aug. 10, 2012, from 4 to 7 p.m., at Ready Funeral Home South Chapel, 261 Shelburne Rd., Burlington. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, August 11, 2012, at 11 a.m. at Saint Mark's Church on North Avenue, followed by burial in Resurrection Park Cemetery, South Burlington. To send online condolences to the family, please visit www.readyfuneral.com. In lieu of flowers, should you wish, please make a donation to Doctors Without Borders; or the North Troy or Troy Vermont Fire Departments (05859), whose volunteers took care of Art and Peggy with compassion and expertise during their terrible, but short crisis. The family would like to give a very special thanks to Nate Kennison. Nate, words cannot adequately express our gratitude for your compassion to our beloved parents.
