A good man has passed away. Roger Andrew Morin, Sr. of Jay, VT passed away on January 16, 2013 at the age of 83. He shared 62 years of his life with the love of his life, Lois.

Roger was born on June 5, 1929 in Williamstown, VT, the son of Philibert and Melanie (Roy) Morin. Growing up in the North East Kingdom Roger worked with his brothers on the family farms operated by his father. Roger fibbed about his age and joined the United States Army / Air Force at the age of 17 where he was a Sergeant and Radar Mechanic stationed in Alaska. After his service Roger moved to Westport, CT where he married, started a family and owned and operated several gas stations including Servicemen’s Oil Company. He later moved to Vermont in 1969 where he owned and operated several businesses including Morin Real Estate, in Jay, VT for over 30 years. During his years in Jay, Roger was a member of the American Legion and the Troy Area Lions Club. He was a volunteer firefighter and later treasurer of the Jay Fire Department; he volunteered at Jay Bingo and at the North Troy American Legion and had been active with the Troy Lions Club. Roger served on many boards including the Community National Bank. He enjoyed working at the Westfield Senior meal site, playing golf and cards with friends, and Texas Hold’em at the Lions Club. Roger was very civic minded and was always ready to lend a hand. Over the years Roger and Lois traveled throughout the US and also to Europe. They also enjoyed many trips through Community Circle.

In addition to his wife Lois (Spielman) Morin, Roger is survived by his six children: Jean Janci, of Nashville, TN, Donna Morin of Nashville, TN, Kim Starr of Tucson, AZ, Jo-Ann Chicoine of Suffolk, VA, Margaret Hartman and her husband Bill of Derby, VT and Roger (Chip) Morin, Jr. of Troy, VT. Roger and Lois have 15 grandchildren: Jennifer Royea, Aaron Janci, Meghan Janci, Carolyn Patenaude, Katie Holt, Amanda Trono, Chad Chicoine, Onalee Hopkins, Ashley Juliano, Lee-Ann Cotner, Mitchell Hartman, Tyler Starr, Nicholas Leithead, Hanna Morin, and Andrew Morin and 14 great grandchildren.

Roger had 12 brothers and sisters. He is survived by his brothers and sisters: Leo and his wife Kathe Morin, Albert Morin and his wife Kathleen, Blanche Sullivan, Carmen Scofield and Patricia Valley. He was predeceased by brothers: Armand, Rene, Edward, Gerard, Robert and John and by his sister Lucille Morin.

Friends are asked to join the family at the Eastside Restaurant in Newport, VT on Thursday, January 24 between the hours of 4:00 to 8:00 in a celebration of Roger’s life.
