Jay Community Recreational Centre Website

The Jay Community Recreational Centre (Land Trust)  consists of two parcels of land with a total area of about 300 acres. The largest of the two is located on Cross Road between routes 242 and 105 and is about 250 acres and is known as the Jay Community Recreational Centre. It is home to a former Christmas tree farm and has some wonderful views of the surrounding mountains. The 2nd  parcel is located on route 242 on the mountain and is about 50 acres.

The town acquired this property from the Vermont Land Trust so this land may be preserved as undeveloped space for future generations. There are some restrictions that came with the land that must be observed by the town as the property is developed for community use. These include a ban on motorized vehicles unless for maintenance of property and only one building may be constructed on the property.

In the fall of 2007, the town held a  Focus Group  meeting from which the Jay Community Recreational Centre committee was formed to oversee the development of the land for public and community use. The Jay Community Recreational Centre Committee is under the auspices of the Jay Select Board. Work done on the property during the year is paid for with fundraisers by the Jay Focus Group, and the Jay Community Recreational Centre Committee and volunteers. The Bottle Hut at the Jay Town Hall benefits the development and maintenance of the Centre.
